At the Garrett Family Foundation, we are driven by our commitment to supporting families in need, especially when life throws unforeseen challenges their way. Recently, we had the privilege of helping a remarkable young boy named Ky and his family.
Ky is a vibrant and energetic boy living in the countryside with his grandparents, who are also caring for two other young children. Like any child his age, Ky loves to run, explore, and play outdoors. However, Ky’s situation requires a bit more caution than most. Ky has Down’s Syndrome, and his family's property, while offering space to roam, is bordered by some hidden dangers, a busy road on one side and neighbors with a pond and a pool on the other.
In the past, Ky has given his family a few scares by running off unexpectedly, leading his grandparents to chase after him to ensure his safety. With so much on their plate, constantly worrying about Ky’s safety outdoors was an overwhelming burden.
That’s when the Garrett Family Foundation stepped in. Through our Immediate Impact program, we provided a solution to give Ky the freedom to enjoy being outside, while offering his grandparents peace of mind. We fenced in their entire property, creating a safe and secure area where Ky can run and play freely without the risk of wandering into danger.
But we didn’t stop there. Understanding Ky’s need for play, we also added a playset to their yard. Now, Ky has a dedicated space to burn off energy, have fun, and just be a kid. For his grandparents, this means one less thing to worry about in their already full lives.
At the Garrett Family Foundation, we believe that small actions can make a big difference. By providing a safe environment for Ky to thrive, we hope we’ve lightened the load for his grandparents, giving them the comfort of knowing Ky can play safely right in their own backyard. This is just one of the many ways our foundation strives to make an immediate impact on the lives of those who need it most.
